DIVE IN

The Dolphin
A harsh incision. A pained decision
That rolls my desire and confuses my heart.
I look in your eyes and the logic departs.
My mind says one thing but my emotions say another.
If I stay away, I can sail in calmer weather
But still I turn my ship towards your island
Like a maverick escaped from some asylum.
I risk beaching my craft upon your rocks
As my eagerness gambles, aspiring for the lots.
The gain of a treasure that may never exist
But the promise of a ‘possibility’ is hard to resist.
Your shores seem to suggest a new land of beauty
And my irrational desires create a new duty.
Can you guide me? Will you lead me safely ashore
Or must I turn my craft around once more?
I know there are other islands close within sail
But compared to you their images pale.
They attract my attention and promise me stability
But somehow, the wonders of your island are stabbing me.
It’s an opening in my heart that I welcome from you.
There’s no sense in it. This I know is true.
So what should I do? Should I dive from my boat
And hope that my heart will keep me afloat?
I’ll dance with the fish that patrol in your waters
As I meet them, my existence may alter.
I’ll stay a mammal but, instead, be a dolphin
I’ll rise up for air but like a fish I’ll swim.
There are tales this sailor can impart
That entertain and may excite your heart.
There are so many stories from my years,
Some formed in laughter, some from my tears.
Hear me, I cry, as I swim close to your shore.
My feelings are never clouded. My feelings are raw.
We can stimulate our minds as well as our forms,
And smile as - for however long - our duality is no more.
The link of our thoughts can propel us together
As we can enjoy the experiences of each other.
It may sound a cliché but from my lips it’s sincere.
Allow me to come ashore and you’ll see that it’s clear.
I’ll never restrict or bar or despise,
I only wish to bring pleasure and inspire.
Now I can feel the rocks of your island beneath my feet.
I am still in the waters but I am close to your beach.
I need only to walk a few more steps
And then I am ashore, so I ask if you’ll accept
Me.
