This picture below is 'Holly Sparkles 2012'. I made it, invited trans* women to write on it and then sold it to raise money for transgender causes. It features in my PhD as I play with concepts of writing a reality in my document:
- "As these art pieces highlight environmental awareness in deconstructing waste materials that are often disposed of within contemporary society rather than recycled, they appeal to environmental awareness, which can originate from pre-modernist concepts (McNeill, Dec. 2003; c2.com, 17th Dec. 2012). While the re-presentations of these art pieces in this thesis are examples of support for trans* people they are not the originals. Accordingly, these re-presentations become expressions of hyperreality (Baudrillard, 1981). As a consequence, by combining my multiple postmodern artistic perceptions with pre-modernist viewpoints, my art pieces could be regarded as expressions of post-pre-postmodernism. Resultantly, my art pieces visually signify the uncertainties of definitively identifying contemporary postmodern transgenderism."
